01 — The Idea

Coffee doesn't come from a package. It comes from here.

Most people drink coffee every morning without ever having seen a coffee tree. My Tree turns that around: a tree at Fazenda Jacarezal is now yours. It carries the name you chose on a handmade wooden sign, and you get to see how it's doing.

The farm lies in Minas Gerais, right in the Cerrado Mineiro region, and has been family-owned for generations. In 2022 we planted the first hectare of specialty coffee together. No corporation in between, no middlemen. One family, one hectare and quite a lot of patience.

02 — Your Sign

What should yours be called?

Every adopted tree gets a wooden sign. Michèle makes it, the name is laser-engraved, and then it hangs on your tree. Type in a name and see how it will look.

03 — The Story

A dream that waited more than 60 years.

Paulo is over 85. All his life he wanted to grow coffee. The land was there, the means never. Then came My Tree, and with the first sponsorships, the first hectare. Today he walks his rows every morning.

He still roasts his own coffee himself. On a small drum over the gas flame, the way he likes it. We never interfered. Would have been pointless anyway.

One hectare of coffee. For us the beginning of something. For Paulo the end of a very long wait.

04 — The People

One farm, three generations.

Fazenda Jacarezal is run entirely by one family, by Nicole's grandfather and her parents. Nicole herself is a co-founder of graycano. So My Tree isn't a project we bought in somewhere. It's family.

05 — How it works

From adoption to your cup.

01

Give a name

You adopt online and assign the name. Shortly after, your digital certificate arrives with your tree's ID. In Brazil your wooden sign is made in parallel.

02

Grow along

About a month later the first photo of your tree arrives. After that you follow it through the e-newspaper, through blossom, rainy season and harvest, with pictures and news straight from the farm.

03

Harvest

If the harvest is successful, the plantation's coffee comes to the shop. As a sponsor you get 10% off it permanently. It's cheapest if you take the beans together with the sponsorship as a bundle.

Honestly: the coffee in your cup doesn't come exclusively from your one tree. A single tree simply yields too little. It comes from the plantation your tree grows on. That's exactly why it tastes so good.
06 — The Cycle

A year in six pictures.

From blossom to roasting drum takes about twelve months. None of it can be rushed, and that's exactly the point.

07 — The Quality

87.5 points. And a protocol that confirms it.

Specialty coffee is graded using the SCA system. From 80 points a coffee counts as Specialty. The Fazenda's 2024 harvest scored 87.5, independently cupped and graded by certified Q-graders.

10 — Gifting

A gift that's better in its second year than its first.

Most gifts are forgotten after two weeks. A tree isn't. It blooms, it bears fruit, it gets a name, and keeps getting in touch by itself.

You choose the name, and without it neither the sign can be made nor the certificate created. Most people use the name of the person they're gifting it to. A nickname works just as well.

12 — Questions

What people often ask.

What does it mean to adopt a coffee tree?
You support a specific tree at Fazenda Jacarezal in Minas Gerais. You give it a name, get a wooden sign on site and regular updates. The tree stays on the farm, and you get access to its story.
Do I get the coffee from my exact tree?
No, and we'd rather be honest about it. A single tree bears too little for its own roast. Your coffee comes from the plantation your tree grows on, and is processed and roasted together.
How long does the sponsorship last?
As long as your tree stands. No subscription, no renewal, no follow-up costs. Pay once and it stays yours. Coffee trees bear for decades, so the one from 2022 still has plenty ahead of it.
How often do I get updates?
The first photo comes about a month after adoption. After that, seasonally: photos, news from the farm and insights into growing and harvest, through your personal e-newspaper.
Can I give the sponsorship as a gift?
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons. You choose the tree's name yourself, and without it we can neither make the sign nor create the certificate. Most people simply use the name of the person they're gifting it to.
Which varieties grow there?
Two Brazilian varieties. MGS Paraíso 2 is smooth and balanced, with fine citrus acidity and floral notes. Arara stands out with its bright yellow cherries, has more body and leans towards caramel, cocoa and yellow fruits.
Where is the coffee roasted?
In Leipzig, at Franz Morish. The green coffee comes from Minas Gerais, roasted fresh and in small batches.
Can I visit my tree?
We're working on it. As soon as it's ready, you'll hear about it first through the e-newspaper.
And for companies?
Larger quantities are possible too, each tree with its own name, ready-registered digitally or, if you like, as a printed folder to hand over. How many trees are currently free depends on the hectare. Write to us via the form above and we'll quickly tell you what's possible.
